West Hollywood Library
This was the first full exhibition about the LGBT community to be shown at Alabama’s Birmingham Civil Rights Institute, whose mission is to promote civil and human rights worldwide through education. The public display of the work marked photographer Carolyn Sherer’s “coming out” and that of a number of other participants. In a state that has legislated discrimination against the LGBT community, many risked loss of jobs, child custody and family acceptance. In WeHo, the exhibit will be on display from April 19 to July 10. A reception will be held May 31 at 7 p.m. (RSVP here) and a talk with the artist will be held June 1 at 2 p.m. The exhibit is free.
