Brad Torgan, a lawyer who is on the West Hollywood Historic Preservation Commission, has met the qualification for being listed on the June 2014 ballot as a candidate for the California State Assembly’s 50th District. Torgan, a Republican will challenge incumbent Richard Bloom, a Democrat, who defeated him in the June 2012 Primary by 720 votes.

“I believe the voters of California’s 50th District deserve a choice,” Torgan said. “If you think things are working in Sacramento, by all means re-elect Mr. Bloom. But if you think we need to protect Prop 13 and reform—education reform, pension reform, regulatory reform—then I am asking for your vote.”

As a land use and environmental attorney, Torgan has led the charge to fight over-development in Hollywood, winning a recent court battle to block the City of Los Angeles’ Hollywood Community Plan update. Torgan also fought to preserve thousands of acres of open space as chief counsel to the California Department of Parks and Recreation.

The 50th Assembly District stretches from Agoura Hills to Hollywood. It includes Malibu, Santa Monica, Beverly Hills and West Hollywood.

Torgan also launched his website www.Torgan2014.com this week, where voters can learn more about the candidate.
