Nir Zilberman is hosting what is likely the final debate in the campaign leading up to Tuesday’s West Hollywood City Council election. Zilberman is owner of the ES Collection and LA Jock stores in West Hollywood and recently founded Love No Hate, which he describes as the country’s first privately owned LGBT center, in a converted storefront at 7990 Santa Monica Blvd.
The debate will take place from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. tomorrow at Zilberman’s home at 949 Havenhurst Dr. south of Romaine. Zilberman said all four candidates in the election — Larry Block, Cole Ettman, John Heilman and Heidi Shink — will participate. Zilberman will provide refreshments to members of the public who attend.
A little notice would have been appropriate and welcome.
Will Mr. Zilberman be zooming this debate?
His house must be an awesome size.
Wow, Dylan. thank you. I’m so glad you brought this up in our debate. i support you and agree with everything you said. it’s about time that our city take a look at our small businesses and support them ( not just talk about it). it’s just the fair way. i know in many countries it’s been done. the 3% tax increase should only be for those who make more then x amount of money. we all lost a lot of tourists in our city. i can tell you when i look at my stores #. we have the money… Read more »
I first want to say thank you to Nir Zilberman for opening his home to everyone. It was a great experience, however I wasn’t expecting to speak, but loved the opportunity when you opened the floor to the people attending. As a small business owner (the Charlie Hotel), it was nice to have the opportunity to ask the candidates about an issue so close to home, and specifically geared to small businesses like mine. As I mentioned at the forum, in 2014 the City of West Hollywood implemented a new tax, the tourism tax. This additional 3% tax brings in a lot… Read more »
Daniel, first i’m so proud of the work that you do. I’m not sure if i can call it work, why?
BEING ALIVE for 29 years GIVE, CARE and LOVE our WEHO.
as the only place in WEHOthat anyone living with HIV/AIDS can go and get love and support.
to me is much more that “work”. this to me is ANGELES giving LOVE.
Thank you for being with us last night. you and your team are our angeles.
being alive / weho IS PEOPLE PRIDE.
I was very proud of my good friend of 30 years, Nir Zilberman, for using his own resources and opening up his home to host a very important debate about a very important election. I was very happy to see all 4 candidates there answering questions from emails that were sent to Nir as well as questions from the approx 50 WeHo residents in attendance. The format of non-politicizing and non-campaigning gave us the opportunity to get genuine and sometimes personal answers from the candidates and also gave us the opportunity to get to know the character of each of… Read more »
Randy, it will be on youtube soon. thank you.
it was the best debate, ever. call john, heidi, larry cole came late and left early but the debate was about love and no more “war” and B.S over 50 who people came it was amazing. next time i urge you to come. cheers. nir
you will be able so see it on youtube soon. it was all about CLASS.
I was there and I thought it was the best forum this year. Since they were not allowed to attack each other, you actually had the opportunity to learn about each candidate’s position on a variety of issues. Nir the host and moderator, was in complete control, he knew when they went off topic or pontificated too long. He just cut them off……one candidate in particular was cut off more than the others for good reason. I also liked that the questions from the audience came directly from the audience member….. (with their own microphone and in their own voice….what… Read more »
Manny, Thanks to people like you the care and give we all made this debate the best, like i always say this city is WEHO people city and we are NOT for sale. we will keep being proud people and show love for ALL PEOPLE.
again, love. nir
Great idea, but how useful is this, if it nobody uploads a video of it, and only a few voters get to be there?
Nir – if you keep Heidi and Cole from attacking anyone, you will be respected, if not, you will be held responsible. I find it ridiculous that you are pushing for a debate, where candidates don’t attack each other. I question your motives here. The results will have the last say.
After speaking with Nir, I understand his objectives are to raise the level of debate to positive solutions for issues the city and its residents face. Although he has no control over the behavior of the participants other than to pass over negative comments or mean inflection, and more on to the next candidate, I personally wish him well. A bit of idealism and effort on a higher level would be a welcome change. He most certainly has no wish to revisit tired and tiresome issues or as we agreed “beating a dead horse deader than dead”.
Lynn, Thank you for your phone call. wow, you made my day. i wish my english was good as yours but i promise i will do my best. you are a great teacher. again, you made my day.
Thank you,my new friend.
This is going the BEST and the most REAL PEOPLE DEBATE our city ever had. All about our tomorrow, no one will be “attack”anyone like last debate. I’m proud of all the email got and i promise i will do my best…i’m human. this is NOT going to be a WAR”. We only going to talk about action and results. we will not talk about the past. we MUST respect all our four leaders. HEIDI, JOHN, COLE and LARRY. please come join us for an amazing evening. trust me anything will be better than last debate. i wish all our… Read more »
