Schrager, famed as the co-owner and co-founder of Studio 54, the iconic New York City nightclub, also is known for having pioneered the “boutique hotel” concept with examples such as the Delano in Miami and the Morgans hotels in New York. Schrager currently is working with Marriott’s Edition hotel brand, which is building a new hotel on Sunset Boulevard in West Hollywood.

The theme of this year’s State of the City event — “The Hotel Evolution” —  will be West Hollywood as a global destination. Mayer Rus, West Coast editor of Architectural Digest, will lead a conversation about the Marriott’s Edition project and the importance of design in to a hotel guest’s experience.

“The full content of this year’s program celebrates a burgeoning and vibrant hotel evolution in the City of West Hollywood that will provide rooms and event space to support the tremendous popularity of West Hollywood as a travel and meeting destination,” said Keith Kaplan, the Chamber’s board chairman.  “The extraordinary design and unique amenities offered by these hotels will set trends for the hospitality industry and will provide jobs and tax revenues to support our city’s exceptional social programs.”

Also speaking will be West Hollywood Mayor Lindsey Horvath and City Manager Paul Arevalo. The City of West Hollywood partners with the Chamber on the State of the City event.  Bill Hynes, vice president of Visit West Hollywood, the city’s visitor and tourism organization, will be honored for his contributions to local tourism. The event will be catered by Wolfgang Puck.

The State of The City 2015 event will take place on Thursday from 6 to 9:30 p.m. at the Pacific Design Center’s Silver Screen Theatre, located at 8687 Melrose Ave. east of San Vicente.  Event tickets can be purchased online.
