It is now six months till the next Halloween Carnival, which should be plenty of time to prepare an information campaign that, beginning this year, children are not welcome to this adult event, and dogs will not be allowed. Who are the planners at City Hall to whom this should be directed so they can get on this? There are 15 comments above from right after last year’s carnival that may need to be reviewed to know how we feel about the intrusion of these little ones (children and dogs) on what should be an adult only celebration, and even… Read more »
It’s not your carnaval nor mine. It’s for the whole city, and you cannot exclude people. I do feel it’s unsafe for animals. To say children cannot go is just wrong. It’s up to their parents as to what they want their child exposed to. So if you want to wear a costume that exposes all your body parts, you should feel free to do so. Weho is not the gay ghetto it used to be.
I have a dog that i love very much. i’d never ever subject her to this danger. LEAVE KIDS AND DOGS HOME. Let this be an adult event, We need one.

Let’s revisit this topic in about six months so that whoever can take on the responsibility to inform the public about NO DOGS and NO MINOR CHILDREN at the Halloween Carnival will have time to get the wheels in motion so that this trend will come to an abrupt end. INFORM and then ENFORCE it. I was bumping into and stepping on little kids as often as I was doing that to dogs. I saw one parent almost start a fight with a guy who apparently bumped into his kid. I was extremely bothered by the number of dogs that were being led around a very crowded carnival thus year ! At one point, I was cut off by a guy ,texting, and dragging his dog. Sadly, I accidentally kicked the dogs back leg – owner clueless to what happened continued to drag the dog into a larger crowd.It seemed like every 30-40 feet, another dog of various size was subjected to trying to maneuver around people in costumes that are enjoying the night; dancing, spinning , twirling and everything else. Construction of many costumes prohibited seeing the dogs and… Read more »
Again clear pathways were blocked by food trucks. While selling food maybe a good idea, parking the trucks in otherwise clear pathways is not only stupid but dangerous. With all the pushing ans shoving something blocking the somewhat clear movement of people is a serious hazard that can be avoided easily bu just parking these trucks across side streets where the Sheriffs and Fire Trucks are currently parked. The sheriffs units and fire trucks are not going to respond into the crowd so their positioning can easily be changed.

I was a bit surprised at how tame the event was considering it was a Saturday night this year with perfect weather. The addition of beer gardens would have been a good move to keep people less confined in the overburdened bars. I’ve been going since 1997 and and though it is still a fun time, I’ll probably head to Vegas for Halloween next year and hopefully it will be a bit more wild. I miss when there used to be more options of places to go after 2 am in and around WeHo, and that was especially irksome with… Read more »

This year seemed to lack live entertainment throughout the parade route and why do we not have suitable beer gardens set up around the area to help reduce the load on the nearby bars? The event went well but it could be much better and certainly not as good as it has been in previous years.
I am not sure what you mean, there were three stages with entertainment. Boy George is not big enough for you? Beer gardens are not a great idea, the less drunks out there, the less problems.

My thoughts on this crystallized through conversations with other people at the Carnival, so it appears there are many others who feel the same way. A couple of guys who were together told me that a few years ago they wore NOTHING but body paint (and shoes) to the Halloween carnival, and posed for pictures with some smiling sheriff’s deputies. They wanted to do it again last year, but with all the kids who now attend they were afraid they might not experience the same acceptance from those same deputies. parents NEED to leave their baby strollers home. In the massive crowds, they are not only a pain but dangerous. THIS MEANS LEAVE YOUR KIDS HOME ALSO! ANYONE WHO BROUGHT THEIR PET SHOULD HAVE BEEN ISSUED A TICKET. IT IS NOTHING LESS THAN CRUEL TO HAVE A DOG THERE GETTING STEPPED ON OR SHAKING FROM FEAR. Other than that, this was the best I have seen in years!

I may have communicated too much emphasis on naked people when my intention was to describe the edginess we used to be known for. My general point was to call attention to the trend in WeHo to adjust to accommodate everybody else as if there was something wrong with the way we always were. Straight women go to gay bars and start complaining about the behavior of gay men, so all the bars adjust to accommodate the straight women. Straight bartenders at gay bars decide their work environment makes them uncomfortable, so they sue their employers for a LOT of… Read more »
