Thieves Got Away with $2,200 in Cash Left in Cars Last Week in West Hollywood

Last week was a lucrative one for those stealing from cars, with 15 incidents reported to the West Hollywood Sheriff’s Station, one of which involved the theft of $1,200 in cash from the back seat of a car and another involving $1,000 in cash stolen from the rear floorboard.  (The video above, “Will People Steal Money From This Car? A Social Experiment,” illustrates the propensity of people to steal visible cash). There also were three armed robberies, one involving the theft of jewelry from a woman who was thrown to the ground during a drug deal gone bad.

June 10

Grand Theft. 1100 block Ogden Drive between 8:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. An unknown suspect cut the lock and removed an electric bicycle that was secured to a patio railing. #03837

Grand Theft. 8500 block Sunset Boulevard between 7 and 7:30 p.m. An unknown suspect removed a gold ring from an unlocked locker in the men’s locker room. #03889

Grand Theft. 8800 block Santa Monica Boulevard at 1:15 a.m. An unknown suspect removed a cell phone and wallet from the victims pocket while inside the club. #03931

Residential Burglary. 800 block West Knoll Drive between 9 a.m. and 5:15 p.m. An unknown suspect forced the rear bedroom patio sliding door open to gain access and removed jewelry and clothing from the bedroom. #03827

Vehicle Burglary. 8500 block Santa Monica Boulevard between 9:15 and 10:30 p.m.  An unknown suspect smashed the rear passenger’s side window and removed two backpacks containing clothing and baseballs from the back seat. #03842

June 11

Aggravated Assault – Knife (Suspect Arrested). 500 block North San Vicente Boulevard at 5:55 p.m. The victim asked a man to move his property from the victim’s driveway so he could park his car. The suspect became upset and pulled a folding knife from his pocket and threatened the victim. The suspect was arrested by responding deputies. #03893

Armed Robbery. 1100 block North La Brea Avenue at 10:35 p.m. A woman was thrown to the ground and her watch, bracelet, and three necklaces were removed by two men during a drug deal. #03899

Vehicle Burglary. 7300 block Santa Monica Boulevard between 8 p.m. and 11 a.m. An unknown suspect smashed the rear driver’s side window and removed a camera, camera lens, tripod, and camera equipment from the trunk. #80010

Vehicle Burglary. 8300 block Sunset Boulevard between 11 p.m. and 12:30 a.m. An unknown suspect smashed the rear passenger’s side window and removed a backpack containing a laptop computer and two hard drives from the back seat. #03950

June 12

Grand Theft. 1000 block Ogden Drive between 7 a.m. and 1 p.m. the next day. An unknown suspect removed a purse from the bedroom. #03996

Vehicle Burglary. 500 block Alfred Street between 10:50 a.m. and noon. . An unknown suspect smashed the front passenger’s side window and removed a purse containing a wallet and credit cards from the front seat. #03921

June 13

Grand Theft (Suspects Arrested). 7100 block Santa Monica Boulevard at 4 p.m.  Two women removed a large amount of food and clothing from display areas and left the store without payment. The suspects were detained by store security and arrested by responding deputies. #03946

Armed Robbery (Suspect Arrested). 8600 block Santa Monica Boulevard at 5 p.m. A man was asked to leave the store by an employee due to previous shoplifting incidents. The suspect became upset and removed a bottle of wine from a display area and threatened to hit the victim. The suspect was arrested by responding deputies. #03948

Armed Robbery. 900 block La Jolla Avenue at 10 p.m. A man was walking northbound on La Jolla when two men approached him from behind and grabbed both his arms. One of the men was armed with a knife and demanded the victim’s cell phone and he complied. #03953

June 14

Grand Theft. 1100 block Fairfax Avenue between 11:30 and 11:35 a.m. An unknown suspect removed a laptop computer from the front seat of the unlocked vehicle. #03972

Vehicle Burglary. 500 block West Knoll Drive between 3 and 5  p.m. An unknown suspect smashed the front passenger’s side window and removed three backpacks containing a laptop computer, clothing, and electronics from the front seat and front floorboard. #03975

Vehicle Burglary. 8600 block Melrose Avenue between 10:40 and 11:40 p.m. An unknown suspect smashed the rear driver’s side window and removed a bag containing a cell phone, passport, and $1,200 in cash from the back seat. #03984

Vehicle Burglary. 8900 block West Melrose Avenue between 9:24 and 10:10 p.m.  An unknown suspect smashed the front passenger’s side window and removed a briefcase containing a laptop computer and sunglasses from the front seat. #04005

Vehicle Burglary. 8500 block W Sunset Boulevard between 10:09 a.m. and noon. An unknown suspect smashed the rear passenger’s side window and removed a purse containing credit cards from the back seat. #04012

I’m sorry, but the people claiming to have had “cash” stolen are just trying to get a payout from their insurance company. 1. It is 2019 and no one carries any cash these days. I am quite well-off and I seldom ever have more than $20 in my wallet. Everyone takes a credit card. 2. If you carry that much cash around (let alone, leave it in your car), you deserve to get robbed. You are asking for it. 3.
