In its latest report, the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health reports that 56 West Hollywood residents have been confirmed to have been infected with the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) – one in every 658 residents. The latest number is a four percent increase from the 54 confirmed infections as of noon on Monday.

However, the number of confirmed infections in all of Los Angeles County has increased more dramatically. With the 3,011 infections as of today, the overall number is up 22% over the 2,463 confirmed infections as of noon on Monday. The Health Department had reported 2,474 infections yesterday, but now it turns out that 11 of those were not Los Angeles County residents.

The Health Department reported 10 new deaths, bringing the total to 54.

There was a large increase in the number of infections in the Melrose neighborhood on the southern border of West Hollywood, which had 100 infections confirmed as of today, up from the 82 reported on Monday. There were 35 infections reported in Beverly Hills, up from 28 on Monday, and 17 in Culver City, up from 14 previously reported. The Hollywood neighborhood had a reported 61 infections infections as of today, an increase from the 49 on Monday.

In its announcement of today’s infection count, the Health Department reminded residents that “current Health Officer Orders prohibit any public or private gatherings or events, and temporarily close all beaches and hiking trails throughout the entire county. Only essential businesses may remain open, and individuals are asked to stay home except to obtain essential goods or services. Health Officer Orders will continue through April 19. “

“This is the highest daily number of deaths we’ve reported to date, and our hearts go out to every family who has experienced loss related to this pandemic,” said Barbara Ferrer, the Public Health director. “Though we expect to continue to see a rise in positive COVID-19 cases and, sadly, deaths in the weeks to come, it is crucial that we continue to stay home as much as possible, practice social distancing if we must go out for essential services, self-isolate when we are sick, and self-quarantine if exposed to someone who is sick. We are all in this together.”

The Public Health Department reminds people: If you are mildly sick, stay home for at least seven days and until 72 hours after being fever and symptom free. Call your doctor if you are concerned and/or your symptoms worsen. Individuals who are elderly, have underlying health conditions or pregnant should consider contacting their providers earlier when they are sick.

Without masks we will need to spread consciousness.
Consciousness can also be contagious.
That could be a new goal for West Hollywood.
