LA County Loosens Requirements for Same-Day Testing for COVID-19

Free, same-day tests COVID-19 tests are now available for all Los Angeles County residents who have symptoms of COVID-19.  Symptoms include fever, cough, and difficulty breathing.

Those seeking to be tested no longer have to be 65 or older or have an underlying health issue.  Immigration status or whether or not one has health insurance isn’t a factor in qualifying for a test.

The county announced its expansion of testing this morning, noting that there currently are 29 test sites throughout Los Angeles County. One of them is on Alden Drive at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center’s Beverly Hills campus.  There are both drive-up and walk-up sites. To ensure the sites prioritize people who need it most, only people who are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 are eligible for these testing services at this time.

Test results may take up to 3 to 4 days. Those with positive test results will be notified with a phone call. Those with negative test results will be notified by email.

Those seeking to get tested must make an appointment, which can be done online  or by dialing 211 for help.

Here is the information you need about getting a test appointment:

  • Visit the appointment website and answer a series of questions. The answers determine if you are eligible for an appointment.
  • If you are eligible, you will receive an appointment confirmation number by email.  Bring the confirmation number and photo ID to your appointment.
  • People without a car can be tested as long as they have an appointment. The sites can accommodate pedestrians.
  • There are NO walk-up appointments available for people who do not register.

Apparently this is nowhere near fool proof. Even if one tests negative, it could be unreliable. That’s the big catch…in between the lines where folks are potentially contagious while not realizing the possibility. Smart recommendations from the most knowledgable say: “Consider yourself to be positive……have a 14 day quarantine and test again. Global Whack-a-Mole.
