Marco Pelusi is an award-winning, globally recognized leading hair-color authority, renowned platform artist and educator, salon owner and fashion-forward celebrity hair-colorist. He’s giving WEHOville readers the insider tips on how to keep your hair looking gorgeous throughout the fall.

It’s no secret that the fall and winter weather can wreak havoc on even the healthiest head of hair. Normal, healthy hair should have between 10-11% moisture content – hair likes to take in humidity, and naturally adjusts itself to the humidity level of its surroundings. As a result, the less humid winter months directly impact hair, meaning it takes more conscious effort to keep hair happy and with a good moisture balance.

Think of it this way: if one wets a sponge, and leaves it overnight, the sponge will eventually dry and mimic its surrounding environment. This is exactly what happens to hair in the dry fall and winter months, making moisture of paramount importance. The answer is a product protocol and system to maintain healthy, hydrated hair – a proper shampoo, conditioner and fixative to maintain the hair’s desired moisture content. Here are four of the usual cooler season woes, and how to create the perfect fall/winter haircare system.

I can’t easily comb through my hair!

A quick fix like a leave-In conditioner with moisturizing factors will provide an immediate change in how the hair feels, giving it slip, control and ease of combing.

No matter what I do, my hair and scalp feel dry and brittle in the fall and winter.

A gentle daily moisturizing shampoo during the fall/winter months will replenish moisture content to both the hair and the scalp, preferably with a low pH, to keep the hair at its proper pH level.

My hair won’t stay properly styled during the fall and winter. I can’t seem to get it to cooperate!

A fixative must be used to hold the hair in place, that will seal hair, as well as locking in moisture and locking out low humidity.

I don’t have time to do a deep conditioning treatment, but I know my hair needs it during the cooler months.

With a good enough conditioner, even leaving it in 2-3 minutes will help with manageability, if it’s used after every shampoo.

My full line of haircare products has a solution for each of these challenges, including Marco Anti Frizz Leave-In Conditioner with natural Aloe Vera and Collagen; Marco Color Health Shampoo has both low pH and also provides for a luxurious rosemary & peppermint aromatherapy experience; Marco Color Guard Hairspray provides a barrier that helps maintain balance and controls how much moisture hair releases during the winter; and Marco Color Hydrate Conditioner, bursting with collagen and fragrant lavender to replenish and restore the hair’s normal moisture content.

With diligence and care, and thanks to new technology, the fall and winter months don’t have to be as tough on tresses as they have been in the past. All anyone needs are the right products – and a little bit of help finding them.  Come to say hello in person and pick up my haircare system when you’re near Robertson in West Hollywood.  And take a look at my website at marcopelusi.com, and go to the products tab!
