All 14 suspects in mob robberies already out of jail

Authorities Thursday announced that 14 people have been arrested in connection with 11 robberies from North Hollywood to South Los Angeles but all have been released from custody.

The suspects were released either due to their age, posting bail or zero bail policies, Los Angeles Police Department Chief Michel Moore said.

At least three of the arrests were previously announced, all involving the smash-and-grab robbery by a mob of at least 20 people at the Nordstrom store at the upscale Grove shopping center in the Fairfax district on Nov. 22.

Two suspects were arrested following a similar robbery that occurred at a cellular phone warehouse in North Hollywood on Nov. 21 where over $100,000 worth of property was stolen, Moore said.

The six burglaries, four robberies and one grand theft took place between Nov. 18 and Sunday and involved several suspects working in tandem to steal from various stores, sometimes employing force and intimidation to overwhelm employees during the crimes, Moore said.

“Striking in that small number of crimes was the amount of property that was stolen,” Moore said. “$338,000 worth of property was stolen across the 11 robberies, which also caused more than $40,000 worth of property damage.”

It was not immediately known if any of the robberies were connected to one another. The names of the suspects were not released.

Mayor Eric Garcetti advised the public that, despite the string of robberies and recent killing of Jacqueline Avant during a Beverly Hills home invasion, crime statistics indicate Angelenos are ” probably in the safest decade of our lifetimes.”

“I’m always careful when I say that because it means nothing if you’re a member of the Avant family or a member of a family that was attacked today,” Garcetti said.

“We never want to dismiss that, but we also don’t want it blow up where everybody thinks that suddenly we’re seeing statistics that are way beyond what they actual numbers are.”

Garcetti added that the resources committed to catching the suspects in the string of robberies are intended to keep the public safe during the holiday season.

“We want you to support your local businesses, especially after COVID- 19,” Garcetti said. “We want you to be out there shopping and knowing you can do that safely.

“We will be out there to make sure that your family is safe, that the places you love to shop are safe, and so that you can enjoy a holiday season that we have all hungered for after two years of being at home.”

There is nothing in the article saying they are freed on charges. They are released on bail, or an arrangement with the court, just like everyone else and how it should be. I am amazed that people who seem to enjoy the idea of the police and the prisons system punishing all the people they think are wrong with the world, seem to have so little understanding how any of the justice system works. Yet they are the first to flood a comment section blaming the new DA for everything or blaming the city for releasing people of lower level… Read more »

I for one am disheartened at the fact that victims in these crimes aren’t given the credence or given a voice and yet they are either left physically or seriously injured or hurt, traumatized, or can’t escape a memory of being robbed. Now mind you smash and grabs are deplorable and ruin people’s peace of mind out shopping, since victims are put into these terrifying situations, because let’s admit these gangs/groups are domestic terrorists but it’s no comparison to masked thugs following, stalking, cornering, & robbing people at gunpoint! At fault Ballot measures endorsed by defense lawyers, prisoner rights advocates,… Read more »

Most people commenting here are premature in their complaints about bail and criminal justice reform. Remember, innocent until proven guilty. The only harm in releasing someone from jail prior to their day in court is if they commit another crime during that time. Nothing here says that is happening. If we find out that these individuals are in fact committing more crime between their arrests and trial, let’s talk about that. Until then, at least pretend to believe in American ideals.

Wow, are you uninformed. The guy from Wisconsin who plowed his SUV through the parade and killed 6 people injuring over 40 others had a rap sheet 5 pages long. Do you think all these criminals commit one crime and then live like a saint. Most crimes are committed by repeat offenders.

That doesn’t actually apply to this story. Since this story is not about people with rap sheets going free. This is about people who were arrested were charged and are able to prepare for their trial and have presumption of innocence. If they had a rap sheet or were a flight risk that is taken into consideration when they are deterimining the bail amount. So don’t call someone else uninformed when you are. The story of the guy in the SUV only apply to this if he was awaiting a trial for crimes. Now a smash and grab crime is… Read more »

West Hollywood got hit hard by antivaxxer and proud boy violence and, their supporters continue to post in our comment sections of our local publications. Breast cancer patient- say they were sprayed with bear mace, physically assaulted, and verbally abused outside the Cedars-Sinai cancer treatment center in West Hollywood, by far-right activists who were angry over the clinic’s mandatory mask policy.

The January 6th insurrectionists (which included LAPD officers) are able to attempt the violent overthrow of the rightfully ELECTED Government of the United States, directly commit numerous acts of violence upon law enforcement which resulted in a few deaths, destroy 💲 millions in public property and, continue as domestic terrorists to this day. Now the same people who are completely OK with this, are upset over a few people in California nonviolently stealing a some designer trinkets❓ Even worse, it’s likely the poor nonviolent shoplifters will be in more trouble than the dangerous insurrectionist domestic terrorists ❗

Based on the date of the constitution (June 21, 1788), which is still in place, the United States is NOTthe oldest continuous democracy.” San Marino’s constitution, dating back to 1600, is the world’s oldest written constitution still in effect. Athenian democracy developed around the fifth century B.C.E. Now you are aware that the United States is a Constitutional Federal Republic as opposed to a true Democracy ❓

Just because you hope that one day you will be able to say you can afford to shop at stores like that, doesn’t mean you actully are part of the upper class. You will never ever be part of that 1 percent that you worship. So maybe start thinking about the middle class since that’s the best you will get and if they suffer that means so do you. The rich don’t care about you, they laugh at how pathetic it is you stand up for them as they break you.

Please note: The ‘insurrection’ in which you reference was nothing more that a kerfuffle. No weapons were used excepting the killing of an American exercising her right to protest by a police officer. Over stating what went on at the Capitol is a sign of weakness and not being intelligent. An insurrection generally involves more than carrying a lectern around or putting your feet up on a desk. Looting stores by mob rule is not welcomed in a civilized society. And by you minimizing and reclassifying the CRIME is another sign of weakness on your part. You are putting out small town AM radio misinformation. Yes, Capitol Rioters Were Armed and, they expressed intent to kill. An additional suspect also allegedly planted pipe bombs by the headquarters of the Democratic and Republican parties the night before the riot and remains at large. Multiple others arrested downtown and in the vicinity of the Capitol had rifles, pistols, explosive materials, and large supplies of ammunition.

“A gang of armed ‘smash-and-grab’ thieves fired 175 shots and stole $5 million worth of products from 15 cannabis shops in Oakland, California throughout November.” The press secretary said it was because of Covid…how condescending…they act like we are idiots, to even try to blame these robberies on Covid.

How many died? I mean 4 died at the captiol attack that you all seem to think was just a polite quiet protest. I personally prefer a robbery to people dying and storming the capital screaming to kill members of our government. But if you think that loss of stuff is worse than lives, clearly I can’t help that.

I would reframe (a portion) of this discussion to the disparity between rich and poor and a whole bunch of other issues that both the left and right can appreciate. Take for example:

Why did the Roman Empire fall? Many reasons, but the five main ones were invasions by Barbarian tribes, Economic troubles, and overreliance on slave labor, Overexpansion and Military Spending, and Government corruption and political instability.

Sound familiar?

In 2020 the LA Times ran a three-part series explaining the Zero Bail ruling. I guess very few bothered tom read it. There certainly are some unresolved elements to it yet is gaining adherents across the country who see many problems with our criminal justice “system”. Nothing in law is uncomplicated and simply wanting the authorities to “be tough on crime” without knowing the consequences of that demand will not always affect all our ,lives for the better. Yet they never have one contribution to the conversation. Then they lose their mind when we move forward with the idea on the table.
