Longtime USC administrator William Gordon has passed away

William Gordon, a prominent figure in gay politics and a former member of West Hollywood’s Gay and Lesbian Advisory Board, has passed away.

He died Nov. 21, 2021, of cardiovascular disease. He was 68 years old.

Many city leaders were unaware of his passing until this week.

“Bill was a very kind, thoughtful, and generous man,” said Jeffrey Prang, the L.A. County Assessor and a former WeHo councilmember. “He cared a lot about West Hollywood and the community and gave so much of himself and his time. I know that there are countless people in the community who he touched over the years and we will all feel his loss.”

“Bill was someone dedicated to the West Hollywood community in so many ways,” said ousted WeHo Councilmember John Heilman, who hopes to regain his seat this year. “We will miss his kindness and commitment to helping others.”

Councilmember John Erickson said Gordon would be remembered at the next City Council meeting.

Bill Gordon was born in Massachusetts and graduated from Boston University. He relocated to California in the mid-1990s, spending more than 20 years as Assistant Director of Admissions at USC. He was an avid believer in and scholar of astrology, tarot and the I Ching.

I’m saddened to hear this. I served with Bill on Lgab, until he moved on to other areas of his life that he wanted to dedicate more time to. Bill welcomed me onto Lgab with open arms, and had coffee with me many times when I needed clarification on certain things. He was a good guy. Rest in power Bill.
