3 charged in follow-home robberies

In early 2021, LADP’s Robbery-Homicide Division (RHD), Robbery Special Section (RSS), identified an ongoing crime trend of follow home robberies. The suspects target victims in Los Angeles, follow them, and commit the robberies as the victims go into isolated areas such as a parking lot or as they arrive home.

On November 17, 2021, the Chief of Detectives directed RHD to formulate a Follow Home Task Force. The intended purpose of the Follow Home Task Force was to assume follow home robberies and identify the associated crews of suspects.

On March 30, 2022, around 2:25 a.m., two UCLA students were approached by suspect Matthew Adams (see photo on page 3) and an additional male suspect, armed with guns, outside a residence in the 500 block of Bentley Ave in West Los Angeles. One victim was struck on the head with a firearm, as the suspects took two high end watches and an iPhone, totaling $145,000.

On January 20, 2022, two male victims were at a nightclub, inside of a hotel, in the 6400 block of Selma Avenue in Hollywood. They left the location and went to pick up food in the 7100 block of Sunset Boulevard. Around 1:50 a.m., while waiting for their food order, the victims parked on Detroit Street north of Sunset Boulevard. One victim exited his vehicle and was immediately approached by Adams, Jayon Sparks (see photo on page 3) and four to five
additional suspects armed with handguns. They demanded property and were able to get a watch, jewelry, cash, and a purse from the victims. The suspects fled in three separate vehicles.

On January 14, 2022, two male victims left a nightclub, located in the 700 block of North La Cienega Boulevard, and walked towards their hotel. The victims were visiting Los Angeles from outside of the country. Adams and an unidentified suspect approached the victims and forcibly took property from both victims. Each victim had a high-end watch and other property taken.

The suspects fled on foot.

On January 7, 2022, a male victim was followed home from the Hollywood area. The victim was exiting his vehicle in the 900 block of Tufts Ave, in the City of Burbank, when he was approached by three male suspects armed with handguns. The suspects demanded victim’s property to which he complied with for fear of being harmed.

On January 7, 2022, one male and one female victim were returning home from dining at a highend restaurant in the 8700 block of Melrose Avenue in West Hollywood. Upon arriving home, the victims observed a vehicle follow them into their parking garage. They parked their vehicle and entered the elevator. As the elevator door was closing, Adams and an unidentified suspect ran into the elevator. One suspect pointed a gun at both victims while Adams forcibly removed victim’s property from his person (watch, wallet, and cell phone). Both suspects then fled the
location and the police were notified.

On March 24, 2022, at 11:00 a.m., Sparks and Eric Wilson (see photo on page 3) were detained
by LAPD officers. Two firearms were recovered inside their vehicle. Wilson (Booking Robbery) were arrested and booked. With the assistance of Metropolitan Division Officers, a search warrant was obtained and served for their apartment, located in the 7300 block of Santa Monica Boulevard, later that evening. Property recovered included identifiable items from previous robberies and multiple weapons.

On March 31, 2022, Adams (Booking #6351875, 211 PC – Robbery) was arrested during a traffic stop.

On March 28, 2022, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office filed two counts of robbery and one count of possession of a firearm against Sparks. One count of possession of a firearm was also filed against Wilson. Sparks bail was set at $50,000. Wilson has been released on bond.

On April 4, 2022, Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office filed multiple charges on Adams, to include seven counts of robbery and two gun enhancements. Adams bail was set at $450,000.

If convicted of all charges, Matthew Adams faces 20 plus years in state prison.

Two years ago Black Lives Matter drew thousands of people to march in Weho & adjacent communities. Protests highlighting Breanna, George and scores of others gripped Weho residents and garnered support. Now we have these bone headed thugs descending on our community for easy picking. The question is, where is the leadership of Black Lives Matter calling out its own? What do members of their core on commissions have to say about this? Candidates for CC seem interested in their Instagram pages or soliciting attention at their meetings but there is no sign of any of them speaking up. Are… Read more »

Well said! I’ve found that even a reference to race is called racist, so that stops any dialogue that may make a difference leading to a solution. It seems that the good, law-abiding BLM people would be all over this because it can reflect badly on themselves.

Some of the principles apparently quickly invested in expensive real estate and their interest seemed to have evaporated. One that sits on a Weho commissions was supper combative against any white folks expressing support for their events at Laurel& Sunset got into online conflicts with them. When she issued a patently untrue statement and was was countered, the entire IG site vanished.

Here today, grab the cash, gone tomorrow!

I hear from friends that live in PS that Palm Springs is getting bad too.

This is sad. I used to be a Democrat.

If these evil losers are ever let out of jail they will hurt more people–that’s all they know. I would send them to jail for life to protect the rest of us.

I’m sure Garçon will be sure to get them back on the streets in a few weeks if they didn’t already receive a no cash bail.

Of course Hovarth, Shyne and Erickson and the Public Safety Commission chick (ya, that’s my name for her now as she does not respect the residents of the city she adopted and reports to, I don’t have respect for her.) probably think this is inadmissible evidence as it came from the sheriffs department. These idiots will find something here to side with the crooks. And so it goes. I’m sure the pronouns used for the alleged preps will be a big topic at the next council meeting.

LOL at how they rob white liberals because their white guilt makes it so easy for them to be victims.

What an ignorant comment. If this is an attempt at humor, it fails.

Unfornately way too many people in WeHo (and elsewhere) believe that their Social Activism/support for BLM protects them against depredations from black street criminals. The mindset is “How is it possible I get robbed by a black guy? I voted for Obama twice and marched in dozens of BLM parades and rallies. I’m an ally” White liberals crack me up

So true. They probably leave their doors open at night so they they can ‘give back’ to the underclass.

Adams was arrested 3 times during January and February. Once for armed robbery of a jewelry store and twice for illegally possessing a concealed handgun – he walked free on zero bail each time. This is normal now because of gascon and the defund lunatics.

Exactly…Liberals in this state elect these idiots who are soft on crime and never really know how they are ruining our state. As long as they have a “D” next to their name. Stop electing these people who could care less about your safety as long as they get your vote…they will talk tough before elections and then laugh at you as they let criminals run free.

No one sanctions this hideous criminal behavior regardless of political affiliation.. These are unintended consequences of humane policies with good intentions. We all can see that they do not work. Ghost guns and lenient sentrnces or none at all for repeat and career criminals harm us individually and as a society. Clearly anti social behavior warrants severe consequences.

It was so obvious to anyone with common sense that the liberal policies on crime would not work. You must have severe consequences for bad behavior for that behavior to stop. No consequences or light cosequences the behavior gets worse. Stop trying to be so “nice” to those that have no regard for you.

Great visuals of the three criminals to be used in new videos against Lindsay Horvath being elected Los Angeles County Supervisor. Her defunding the police campaign will be hooked up with these three crooks.

An autographed report following this trio should be delivered to the individual members of WH City Council and its Public Safety Commission as EXHIBIT A in how police work operates in the hands of law enforcement. Currently they are out on bail so know telling if their extended collaborations will end or increase. Then there is the question of IF and WHEN they might go to trial as EXHIBIT B.
