CicLAvia gives WeHo a taste of the traffic-free life

Kids with training wheels, adults on high-end bicycles, joggers, scooter riders and even shirtless roller skaters effortlessly and safely shared Santa Monica Blvd. on Sunday morning thanks to the CicLAvia event, which kept cars and trucks off the road from San Vicente all the way to Highland Ave. in Hollywood. Chill vibes abounded on the corner of SMB and Crescent Heights, from the cloudy AM weather to the friendly and relaxed sheriff’s deputies, who were happy to be back keeping residents safe after COVID forced the annual event’s cancellation in 2020 and 2021.

I hate this event. The bikes can stay in the bike lane. If we can’t have Halloween don’t have this event either.

So, the Halloween Carnival is cancelled now for the third year!

“We canceled it two years in a row. So it sort of doesn’t exist anymore, in some way,” West Hollywood Councilmember John D’Amico told Los Angeles Magazine today. “Many of us experienced, in some way, a kind of a sense of relief. As much fun as it was, it was an incredibly nerve-wracking 24 hours to make happen.”

John D’Amico just can’t take the stress.

Lol. And Halloween is cancelled. Covid is so scary and we need to cancel Halloween but I’d never cancel this.

Prohibited motorized scooters on the course had to ruin it for everyone.

Yes, they were prohibited, for no good reason. No more dangerous than a bicycle, traveling the same speed. I read this article, and thought you’d be the first one to comment. I was off by a few. 🙂

Why don’t you go out and take a poll of the people who enjoyed this event, who were not on scooters, and find out if it is even close to “everyone?” You are projecting your opinion on others.

Perhaps Manny could do one of two things. Seriously follow through with powers that be in city hall to assure enforcement. Set up a “Scooter School” for Manny to encourage riders to follow the rules of the road through leadership. Maybe both. Manny could become the Scooter Ambassador.

Kids with training wheels! Sounds like recruitment for WEHO Council Candidates for 2022!
