West Hollywood’s Community Safety and Well-Being Strategic Plan
The Community Engagement phase of this project has just begun! The City seeks feedback on the on the Initial CSWB Strategy from residents, businesses, local social services agencies, first responders, and other key civic groups and participants. From October 22nd to November 7th, the City will be conducting a series of engagement activities to gather additional community feedback to inform the final CSWB Strategy.
The City recognizes that an inclusive Community Safety and Well-Being Strategy can help create a welcoming and safer environment for all West Hollywood community members and residents, and is one part of working towards greater equity in the City. To increase engagement and amplify the voices of these groups in West Hollywood, the project team will be hosting focus group sessions in late October (in-person) and early November (virtually). To facilitate engagement and amplify the voices of these groups in West Hollywood, the project team will be hosting 7 focus group sessions in-person and virtually in late October – early November 2022 for the following community groups:
- Black, Indigenous and People of Color (BIPOC)
- LGBTQ+ community members
- People with special needs and/or disabilities
- Russian-speaking community members
- Seniors (Ages 55+)
- Transgender, Non-binary, and Gender Non-Conforming community members
- Women
No professional or specific experience is necessary to participate, and all community members identifying with one of the above groups are welcome to apply. A gift card for participation will be provided.
The only group excluded from the community safety and well being study is straight white men. West Hollywood Prides itself on being ‘inclusive’, but its policies exclude white men under the age of 55 in its community safety and well being strategy.
The focus group is being done by a Canadian company who dials West Hollywood residents and asks a set of questions. If a person is called who does not fit the above criteria they cannot be included in the survey.
The “West Hollywood Public Safety Strategic Plan” being run by a Canadian consulting firm that intentionally excludes a specific group of local residents from participating. It’s difficult to come up with something more dysfunctional than that. But there’s always next week.
Truly offensive. The results of this wasteful survey will be tainted and worthless.

I don’t understand, safety is a concern for everyone. The same things that make me feel unsafe should make everyone feel unsafe regardless of the color of their skin, their disability, their age, etc.. Not enough police to protect the good people of this city while the number of bad people doing bad things increases. As an out white Anglo Saxon Protestant gay man, I take complete offense with this skewed inclusiveness. It’s not. And that anti whiteness BS spewing from Sepi Shyne’s dirty mouth is offensive and out of line. The Planning Commissioner was pushed to resign by Shyne for a humorous antidote about Persians and yet Shyne is expounding anti-whiteness from the council dias. Enough is enough. As usual, Wehoville is reaching. This team is focusing on groups who are often overlooked in these conversations, this is not the totality of input on community public safety and well-being, there have been TWO such town halls where white people in general were in the majority, all this group is doing is outreach to make sure ALL voices are included. Of course, Wehoville has an issue with that.
The groups listed above are no longer underrepresented or overlooked.

I never said our city is free of discrimination. I don’t believe that discrimination is a major problem in our progressive city (as much as our current city council would like to use that to divide us all).
