Sheriff responds to accusations of violence by WeHo activist

Last week’s City Council meeting brought out protesters who claimed the L.A. County Sheriff Department had acted with too much force when Annie Jump Vincent, an activist for LGBTQ+ rights often seen giving public comment in Council chambers, allegedly interfered with a crime scene investigation. The department issued the following statement in response:

On Wednesday December 7th, 2022, at approximately 3:03 pm, West Hollywood Station received a priority call for service regarding a domestic violence incident.

Deputies responded to the 1100 block of Poinsettia Drive, in the City of West Hollywood, regarding the domestic violence call. Upon arrival, an irate female white, adult, unrelated to the domestic violence incident, approached Deputies and stood at the entrance of the apartment complex, not allowing Deputies to enter the location and conduct their investigation. In domestic violence incidents, every second is critical for the safety of victims involved.  As a result of the female preventing Deputies from entering the apartment complex to get to the domestic violence incident, a use of force occurred and the female was arrested for obstructing the Deputies in the lawful course of their duties.

Deputies were then able to go to the apartment where the alleged domestic violence incident was occurring. Deputies contacted a male, who was home alone.  He said his girlfriend had not been there for a couple days.  A protective sweep of the location was conducted and no one else was located in the apartment.

West Hollywood Station Detectives are in the preliminary stages of their investigation. The investigation is ongoing and there is no additional information available at this time.

We are also investigating if this was a false report of an emergency.  That is a separate investigation.

How about a New Year’s Resolution to Ignore Annie Jump Vicente. Limit her Public Comment to precisely 2 minutes and mute her mic is she rolls on.

Consider the animosity and explosive behavior Ms. Vicente expressed towards the LASD while they were following protocol on a call confronting several armed deputies experienced in handling this type of eruption. Further Ms. Vicente’s angry, confrontational behavior shown in front of City Council on numerous occasions. Now consider the possible altercation she may have with an unsuspecting resident anywhere. The effect could be extraordinary and put one in immediate danger. This is a disaster that could explode and exponentially affect other innocent lives. The LASD and DA should not give this a pass. The irresponsible behavior evidenced by Sepi Shyne… Read more »

DA already made their conclusions. They said the cops violated my Constitutional rights.

This anger I have for the police is reserved for gangs (LASD) that get paid my taxpayer dollars just to beat me up and arrest me without cause, without warrant, and inside my home. They also say here that they are investigating a false police report, so the also arrested me under false pretense of a non-existent emergency.

And you sided with cops because you heard an angry trans woman wouldn’t let them into their home without a warrant? Do you even care about the Constitution?

Just so we can understand the situation, and maybe support you, can you clarify whether the Sheriff was trying to enter your apartment, or the common areas of the apartment building, shared with other tenants. The Knock article says that they were entering your home, which I assumed was your apartment, and that sounds horrible. Other sources say it was the common areas of the building, which contradicts the Knock article.

Apparently, by her own words, she was at the front gate when the altercation occurred. She motioned to the phone/ name of landlord for the Sheriff to call him. The deputies did as they reported, enter the complex and were unable to locate the person/source of call.

Ms. Vicente appears to be volatile & disruptive in order to draw attention to the fact that she feels disrespected as a transgender and/or misgendered person. Creates her own chaos as she has no self respect and shown little respect for others.

Police officers do not generally need a warrant to enter an apartment building to investigate a 911 domestic violence call (or a prior non-911 call). These are fact specific matters so the devil is in the details. However, a non-party to the incident, such as Annie, generally has no right to block their entry. If there is misgendering going on, that isn’t OK but that is a separate issue from the LASD’s right to enter the building to investigate the DV call.

It was a false police report.

When you say “police report”, do you mean someone gave a false account of the events that took place? Between the Sheriff’s response, your account and the Knock article, there are three different, conflicting stories.

That is not relevant to the legal issue in question. If they had a 911 or police station call that reported DV, then they can (generally) enter to investigate without a warrant. I don’t see what legal basis you had to stop them.

Clearly this Annie person has mental problems. I wonder what her disability is? I’d say she just another nut who can’t get along with people besides the other nuts caught up in her script. Sad that our society has given them carte blanche to behave like this. I say take away their benefits. Maybe it will give them something else to concentrate on.

Get a job. It’ll give you something to do besides make trouble. You are not the center of the universe. Being trans doesn’t make you special. You are not special. I blame your parents for failing to raise you right. I bet you do, too. Am I correct?

Peoples’ only responses aren’t about the fact that the DA wrote out literally stating a Court case from 1974 proving the Sheriff’s violated my 4th amendment right. Rather, they attack me in every which way. Do you all not want to hold bad apples accountable? Doesn’t seem like it. Bravo for defending crooked cops that go around arresting people in their own home without a warrant.

You seem to have a bitch with God. Take it up with him instead of making trouble for the city and its self respecting residents while you foolishly make a public spectacle of yourself.

Just a hypothetical question here, based on incidents that have happened in West Hollywood. If you’re my neighbor, and I’m choking, I call for help, and the Sheriff happens to respond first, you (Annie) can legally prevent them from entering the common area of the building to help? Or maybe I’m being sexually assaulted by my boyfriend, if that situation makes more sense. Maybe one of the attorneys who post here can clarify this situation.

If cops are responding to a call (that YOU didn’t make) why would you interfere? Lol. Is this your response any time, any sort of first responder shows up? Unless you knew the call was erroneous? Unless you were the one that placed the call in the first place, anonymously? This isn’t activism. Heck, this isn’t even logical. It’s just an extremely bizarre, IRL, “civil rights” trolling. And if you feel the need to respond to my comment save your typing regarding your constitutional rights. Unless you can answer my first question you really have no basis to complain about… Read more »

You blocked officers from responding to a domestic violence call. Imagine you called 911 because someone misgendered you and a straight dude blocked the cops from entering the building. Would that be cool?
