TONIGHT: Bike lanes for Santa Monica Boulevard?

Bike lanes are all the rage these days in WeHo’s halls of power. Is resistance futile? City Hall is sharing highlights* of the $100,000 study they commissioned to find out whether bike lanes were feasible on Santa Monica Boulevard and Fountain Avenue at the Transportation Commission’s Zoom meeting tonight, and it’s open to the public. Local bicycle advocates are encouraging their community to join the meeting to support the bike lanes. Will residents and renters who’ve voiced their dismay at the bike lane plans make themselves heard, too?

* It’s not clear whether we’ll see the full report or just the “analysis” by City Staff members

Protected bike lanes on SMB would be a game changer in allowing people of all ages and abilities to shop and socialize in Weho without driving and parking a car. It will be a major plus to business as these kinds of improvements are elsewhere.

Can we put the railroad tracks back down the middle of Santa Monica Boulevard instead?

A load of crap.

Stop the insanity. With Fountain apparently headed for a road diet, the majority of that traffic will shift to SMB. There’s NO SPACE for a bike lane east of Holloway on SMB. Consider Romaine or Willoughby if there’s really a need.
