A man who was likely homeless was caught in the act of defacing private property with anti-Semitic hate symbols at 1:35 p.m. today in front of the new John Reed Fitness at 8612 Santa Monica Blvd. in West Hollywood.
WEHOville publisher Larry Block approached the man, who held a marker in his hand, to say “Excuse me, is that proper?” but the man did not answer.
At that point the man put down his marker and walked west on Santa Monica Blvd.
In March, similar markings were found outside of Z Pizza.
So disappointing 😞 . Before I read the article I was hoping it was about some typical Middle American trailer park meth chick with the usual hate group tattoos coming to the Great City of West Hollywood and enlightened with an interracial relationship ❗
I’m so relieved that Sheriff deputies were on foot patrol and were able to witness this incident, maintain the peace and arrest the alleged suspect. And that our Safety Ambassadors were present to assist.
Given this transpired only a matter of blocks from the Sheriff’s station and in a high pedestrian traffic area, I’m glad they were on regular foot patrol duty.
Imagine what might have happened if, with no safety patrols in sight, passersby had intervened and the alleged suspect had become violent.

Considering the variety of symbols, it seems like this isn’t a true hate crime, as offensive as it is. This person is probably mentally ill, and needs help. How can the Wehoville community help him?

That doesn’t make it a hate crime. This is probably a cry for help or acting out, he’s probably in a lot of pain. His issues don’t make the behavior less offensive, but you have to look at the context.
Having people rotting in jail doesn’t help anyone, least of all the so-called “good people of America”. They’re the ones paying for people with mental illness to stay in jail, instead of getting them help.

The burden of good faith discourse is on you not making specious faux polite demands someone else provides you with evidence you should research yourself, if you were interested in the truth. I am right-of-center by WeHo standards and I have fallen for that challenge and have taken the time to research and find irrefutable evidence to support my position only to find it is never enough. I have learned that many people are so emotionally vested in their ideology they are actually incapable of seeing any other point of view. So, as you wisely said, if it matters so much they can just as easily do their own research. It’s not like they have to go to the library.
